Like the majority of its competitors, WinRAR integrates directly into Windows Explorer and thus allows files to be compressed or decompressed via the context menu accessible with a simple right click of the mouse.

The software also provides advanced features such as password protection of archives, testing archived files to detect any repairs to be made or a benchmarking module to evaluate the performance of the PC in terms of file compression.

Improve Compression - WinRAR

How to compress a document?

By default, WinRAR uses a normal compression method to archive your files, which offers a good compromise between compression time and archive size. You can use a better compression method to obtain smaller files, to send them faster by email for example or to store them on a medium limited space. In return, the duration of the archive creation will be a little longer.

1- In Windows Explorer, right-click on the file or folder to be compressed then choose the Add to archive command.

2- Choose the archive format, RAR or ZIP.

3- Then expand the Compression method list and click on Best.

4- Finally, click on the Ok button to start the compression and the creation of the archive.
